 Kovalam is an evergreen and pleasant climatic world-famous beach resort lie just 16km south of Thiruvanathapuram, which has been a favorite spot for tourists since 1930's. Kovalam is a dreamland for tourists all over the world with high rock promontory and a calm bay of blue waters, this beach paradise creates a unique aquarelle on moonlit nights. It's a must see destination of India. It was among the most prominent tourist spots in India during the hippy era. It still has a high status among tourists mostly European even now the glory of this beach attracting more and more tourists-western. This beach has lovely coconut palms fringe the golden sands. Rail -Nearest railway station is Thampanur railway station in Trivandrum is just 16 Kilometers from Kovalam. It is an important rail head of the Southern Railway and is well linked to major towns up country as well as within the State
Road – Kovalam is easily accessible by road .

Thiruvallam : Is a famous Polgrim centre of Lord Parasuraman's .The temple is here by the river at Thiruvallam, Chithranjali, the State Film  Development Corporation's studio is at Thiruvallam. This is on the Thiruvananthapuram-Kovalam route, 6km from Kovalam.
Chowara : This fishing hamlet near to Kovalam has many picturesque spots, it is 8km south from Kovalam,Chowara is a beautiful long wide sandy beach backed by numerous coconut trees which conceal a fishing village and a wonderful old church.
Poovar: is one among the natural wonders where the Lake, River, Sea and Beach meet the land away from 20 km from Kovalam. Poovar is unspoilt and unexplored, envoloped by the most serene backwaters, and opening out to the sea and a dream golden sand beach.The historical importance of Poovar has its strong ties with the legendary King of the erstwhile Princely State of Travancore, the great Marthanda Varma Maharaja.
Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple: 14 Kilometers away from Kovalam at Trivandrum. The temple is an excellent example of the Dravidian style of architecture. There are innumerable pillars, intricate carvings, and mural paintings.The imposing seven storied tower makes it the most impressive landmark in the city.
 Kanyakumari (Cape Comorin) : Situated 87 km away from Kovalam, it is located at a junction at the southernmost tip of India where the three water bodies, namely, Bay of Bengal, the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean meet.One can see the sun rise from the Bay of Bengal and set in the Arabian Sea. The Gandhi Smarak Mandir and Vivekananda Rock Memorial are additional tourist attractions.
Sree Chithra Art Gallary: Has a rich collection of paintings of Raja Ravi Varma and Nicolas Roerich. It also has copies of paintings of the Ajanta, Rajput, Mughal and Tanjore Schools besides some works from China, Japa,Tibet and bali are exhibited here.
Kuthira Malika : (Palace Museum): Puthen Malika is also known as Kuthira Malika.This palace was built during the time of H.H Maharaja Swathi Thirunal the king of Travncore who was also a great poet and musician. This palace has wood carvings in the traditional Travancore style. The museum presently displays various painting collections of the royal family.
